Sri Lanka Wildlife Retreat

From the city of Negombo we go north along the western coast of the island before turning inland at the city of Puttlam to head towards Willpattu National park. Check in to your hotel/safari lodge for lunch. Before heading out on an evening safari in to the park in search of the islands top predator the Sri Lankan Leopard. 

“Willpattu national park is one of the islands oldest and largest protected areas.
The name when translated to English means the land of the lakes, this is due to the presence of natural water bodies like lakes which are actually lime stone depressions in the land that hold water. The park is home to a host of wildlife such the Sri Lankan Leopard, Sloth Bear, Spotted Deer and Elephants. It is also home to a wide variety of species of birds”.

Accommodation – 

The tour is all about the two national parks so we have allocated as much time as possible for you to spend within the park. An early morning start to the safari to catch the cool morning climate when the animals you are after are more active. Breakfast will be served within the park at a designated stopping location. The safari vehicles will be packed with everything you require to spend the entire day in the park, from sun rise to sun set. 

Accommodation – 

Second full day safari within the jungles of Willpattu National park. Being the largest national park in the island and on a tour focusing mainly on a two parks deserves the maximum time within them, hence the two full days of safaris. This gives you ample time to cover a majority of the park and its many inhabitants. Lunch and breakfast will be served within the park.

We let you take a small break in the morning before taking the driver over to Wasgamuwa National park. The second park we are visiting on this tour. Check in to your lodge for lunch and a quick rest before you head out in the park for an evening safari. 

“Wasgamuwa National park found on the boarders of the Mahaveli and Amban rivers is a park that consists of varying microhabitats that play host to a variety of fauna and flora.  The name wasgamuwa literally translates in to the village of bears, is most popularly known for its herds of Elephants but the park is home to sloth bears and leopard who are your foucs for the trip. As the park is less visited the animals tend to be shy, however sightings here are private and much sort after”.

Accommodation – 

As with Willpattu National park we have two full day safaris in Wasgamuwa National park as well. Day 6 of the tour sees your 1st full day within the wilds of Wasgamuwa. Roam the park in search of birds, Elephants, Sloth Bears, Leopards and array of other wildlife. Meals will be served to you within the park on the banks of the Mahweli River.

From the jungle to the city. After breakfast take the drive back to the city of Colombo. Take time to rest in the evening and get ready for the flight back home.
